Why Black Boxx?

Our goal with Black Boxx is to make boxing more accessible and use it as a means to improve physical and mental health. Partnering with local gyms as well as using portable equipment and a pickup truck, we’ll be able to train the sport of boxing anywhere. We teach techniques and strategies of competitive boxing, without the pressure of competition or being punched. If you’re looking to get into “fighting shape”, cross-train and learn a new set of skills, find a release for everyday stresses or simply get a damn good workout... Black Boxx has you covered! Offering house calls, outdoor workouts and gym training we’re removing the limitations you may have thought you had. That said… Black Boxx is about more than boxing and fitness. The idea came from a desire to interact with people and leave a positive impact on the world. From the first day I stepped into a boxing gym, the sport was what brought all the chaos in my life to a calm and clear center. Jobs changed, relationships were built and broken… but boxing was still there. After finally opening up to my family about battling depression and losing two loved ones in their own battle, the lessons I learned in the ring helped me fight through my lowest lows. Through it all, this sport has brought me some of my deepest connections and my little Pit-tato, Teddy. After all of this… how could I not try to share benefits of boxing with others?

Ok… So what is Black Boxx?

Black Boxx is the belief that you are a complete person. That you are good enough. That, despite the struggles you face, you can do better and be happy. It’s the belief that you are more than whatever label society has placed on you. Boxing and fitness are simply the platform to spread this message. Even the name Black Boxx is a reflection of this belief. Think of the color black… to some, it represents hard times, sadness or negativity. For others, it’s enhancing or definging. Neither is wrong. On a personal level, I have always struggled with what it meant to be black as a man. How should I act? Is this offensive? Am I too black? Am I not black enough? What’s wrong with what I like? These were all restrictive thoughts that I carried for so long. These boxes that I placed on myself are not unique to me. We all do it. Speaking of boxes… Sometimes, we use them to keep things separate. We allow these boxes to tell us what we can and can’t do or who we are. At the same time, we use boxes to hold what we love most. The more valuable the contents, the better the box. So we have these two words that have opposing meanings or restrictive implicatications depending on how we view them. They are what we perceive them to be. This is why, in our branding, you won’t see the word “Black” in the color black. The use of the cube is a representation of perspective. Is it solid? Is it hollow? Which way is it really facing? That is all in how you perceive it… just like life. So even if you never put on gloves and train with Black Boxx LLC, you can be a part of a movement to remove the limitations we put on ourselves. To break stereotypes and stigmas against race, gender, mental health/illness and even dog breeds (we’re definitely advocates for the pit-taters). No matter if you’re working up a sweat to reach your health and fitness goals or rocking some apparel to support our cause… we’re in this together. Thank you!
